WHAT NETWORK TECHNICIAN SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO:
A
network computer technician has obtained training in network installation,
system configuration and troubleshooting.
They have usually completed a community or career college program in
computer networks. Both one and two year programs are available and provide the
skills necessary to work in this capacity.
A
network computer technician is responsible for initial set up and maintenance
of a computer network.
This
includes both the hardware
and software components. During a standard day, they
monitor network activity, install software patches, reallocate resources to meet
different need and manage the printer server.
An
infrastructure computer technician is
focused on the design and implementation of large computer networks. They have
university degrees
in computer science
or computer networks. Part of their responsibility is to determine the correct
location for the computer equipment. This location must provide the ability to
manage the heat and power issues associated with computer networks.
Server
computer technicians specialized in the scoping, installation and management of
large server farms.
These locations have a large number of servers running simultaneously to meet
client needs. A server
technician usually has a university degree
and is certified in server technology. They are responsible for deciding what
type of equipment is required, installing, configuring, and implementing the
service.
A+
A computer technician is someone
who specializes in the installation, repair, and maintenance of computer
equipment. Computer
is a general term and includes
everything from a desktop computer to the supercomputer monitoring
changes in the earth’s atmosphere. There are four different kinds of computer
technician: repair, network, infrastructure, and server. All four technicians
have similar background and skills. Jobs that are specialized in the different
aspects of computer technology require additional education and experience.
A computer technician who
specializes in repair is usually trained in the general hardware structure, the
way the components work together and diagnostics. In order to work in this
field, most people have taken a short course in computer hardware, which is
called the A+ Certification. This 12-week course covers the fundamental
background, technologies, and troubleshooting skills needed to repair common
issues.
Additional, specialized courses
are available for laptop repair. Manufacturers often provide courses on their
own products to technicians working in registered service centers. These
technicians learn how to make approved repairs and identify an unauthorized
repair attempt.
A repair technician inspects
computers, laptops, monitors, and printers to determine what the problem is.
They look for broken items, burned out components or other issues. Once they have diagnosed the problem, they
can either repair the unit or replace the damaged part with a new one.
